FTTH
Dr.Suresh led invention of Fiber To The Home(FTTH) distribution system has contributed to emerging Photonics industry in India.
FTTH was just beginning to emerge in 2008. Providing on-demand fiber connections to individual apartments in pre-existing multi-dwelling buildings was a challenging task. Each building required customized fiber distribution solutions. Multifiber cables of varying lengths had to be routed through building conduits, and individual splicing was necessary to establish connections to apartments.
Dr. Suresh’s invention streamlined Fiber to the home installations right from Central office (Fiber Distribution System-FDS),streetside distribution system(Fiber Distribution Hub-FDH), Basement Collector Unit (MTCA) and Floor distribution (Fiber Distribution Terminals-FDT). These were of high density, highly configurable and best in performance. Dr.Suresh commercialised these inventions qualifying to global Telcordia standards. These products made service providers offer plug and play connections, simplifying the field installation. Developed process improved the performance of 12 fiber Mechanical Transfer (MT) connector and still remains as the golden standard.
Dr.Suresh established a high volume Verizon qualified manufacturing facility, SFO Technologies Optronics, Kochi in India. Dr.Suresh’s efforts made regional economic development at $250+ million USD and created sustained photonics job opportunities for 85 people for 15+ years.
